Revel 42 of Wilmington is your North Carolina golf cart headquarters, so we’ve assembled this guide to help you find the perfect windshield for your cart.

OEM Vs. Aftermarket Windshields

When shopping for a windshield, your options are to go with an OEM or an aftermarket model. OEM stands for “original equipment manufacturer” and it refers to the company that made your specific golf cart. An OEM windshield is specifically designed by the manufacturer to fit into your make and model of cart. These windshields should fit your cart perfectly and be easy to install, but they can be more costly and your options may be limited.

Aftermarket windshields may be designed by any manufacturer and could be more challenging to fit to your cart, requiring more technical installation. However, there may be many more options available in terms of material, shape and tint, and aftermarket windshields will likely cost less money. You just need to be careful and do your research to find a good one.

Acrylic Vs. Polycarbonate

Windshields are typically made out of either acrylic or polycarbonate. Each material has its advantages and disadvantages. Some windshields are even made from a blend of the two!

Acrylic windshields are tough and withstand scratches well, but they are more likely to crack or break when hit by a projectile (such as those ubiquitous golf balls on the course). If you aren’t planning to drive your cart on a golf course and use it for other reasons, acrylic may be suitable for you.

Polycarbonate is a much tougher material in terms of impacts, but it can scratch and become dull with time. This material is also more expensive than acrylic, due to its hardiness.

Things To Know

When shopping for the perfect golf cart windshield, you’ll need to bring a few key pieces of information with you:

  • The exact make and model of your cart.
  • The length of your golf cart’s roof struts; tops for carts typically are either standard (54”) or long (80”).
  • Whether you want a windshield that can fold up and be stored or a one-piece permanent windshield.
  • Whether your windshield should be tinted or not; tinting can help to reduce glare on sunny days, but it generally costs a bit more.
