After weeks of riding your scooter through all types of weather, it’s going to be pretty dirty, and keeping it clean is important. Not only is a clean scooter nicer to ride and less liable to leave stains on your clothing, but it’s also easier to maintain, since you can see what issues need to be addressed. Here are the steps to take to wash your scooter.

Get Supplies Together

First, it’s helpful to gather up the supplies you’ll need so you’re not running into your garage for something. You’ll need a hose or another source of clean water, a couple of buckets, a motorcycle wash or car-wash soap, sponges, a hard-bristle brush, chamois cloths, chain lubricant, wax, and a can of compressed air. Park your scooter in a place with good drainage where you can easily move around it.

Rinse & Scrub

Start by spraying down your scooter with water to remove some of the grime and get it ready for scrubbing. You’ll need to mix some of your soap and water in a bucket, so you can apply it with your sponge. The hard-bristle brush can help you access hard-to-reach areas, as can the can of compressed air. Make sure you rinse as you go to keep soap scum from drying.

Dry & Polish

You can let your scooter dry if it’s nice out, or you can use your chamois cloths to dry it off. Apply some wax to a clean cloth and buff it into the surface of your scooter, taking care to not get it on the seat or handlebars. Now is a good time to apply lubricant to the chain and other moving parts of the scooter.
