How to Winterize Your Golf Cart

It’s not always possible to use your golf cart all year round. The weather can take a turn during the winter months, with high winds, precipitation, and cold temperatures making it impractical to use a golf cart for playing golf or performing daily errands. In this event, you’ll need to winterize your golf cart to get it ready for months of storage, and we’ve got the tips you need to do just that.

Clean It Up

First, you’ll want to give your golf cart a thorough wash and allow it to dry. A clean golf cart is easier to maintain and it’s less liable to fall into disrepair. If you need to, you can use a degreaser spray to remove oily build-up.

Change Engine Fluids or Tender the Battery

If your golf cart is gas-powered, you’ll need to add fuel stabilizer to the gas tank with clean fuel for winter storage. You should also change the oil and top off coolant and other fluids, and change out air and oil filters at the same time.

If your golf cart is electric, then you should check the water level of your battery and clean any corrosion on it. In order to help it hold a charge, you may want to remove the battery and place it on a tender charger that can keep it charged up over the winter.

Store Indoors

The best place to keep your golf cart when you’re not using it is safely indoors, in a garage or shed that locks. This will protect it from theft, pests, and weather damage. If you have to keep your golf cart outside, try to store it in a backyard or out of view of the street, and put a snug-fitting waterproof cover over it to protect it.
