When riding off-road it’s extremely important to always put safety first. You never know what could go wrong out on a trail, or if you’ll be able to reach someone if you end up in a tight spot. The best way to survive an emergency is to avoid one altogether, so we’ve written up the helpful pre-ride checklist below to help you ensure your powersports vehicle is ready to ride.

Inspect Your Gear

While your vehicle will require the most attention before a ride, it’s still a good idea to look over your riding gear as well and ensure everything is in good condition. Double-check that your helmet doesn’t show any signs of damage or extreme wear, and that your padding and protective clothing don’t have any holes or large tears.

Check the Lights

Visibility is important in ensuring a safe trail ride. Take a minute to test the lights and make sure they are all working properly.

Check the Electrical Connections

Test the various electrical connections, such as the ignition switch and the kill switch. It's better to uncover an electrical problem now than out in the wilderness when you are far from a service department!

Check the Controls

The last part of your pre-ride inspection is a quick test run. Try out the accelerator, brakes, and throttle. Make sure everything is functioning as it should and your powersports vehicle can deliver a safe trail ride.
