Scooter Commuting Tips
Your scooter may be your perfect commuting vehicle. It offers a more fuel-efficient ride compared to a car, saving you plenty of money on gas. It also offers a more enjoyable ride, making the commuting experience better. It's no wonder commuting by scooter is a popular option.
But before you head to work on your scooter, you will want to set yourself up for a safe and stress-free ride. We've gathered up the following tips for using your scooter to commute. If you have any questions or want to shop scooters for sale, visit Revel 42 - Wilmington. Build Your Route Strategically
The first step is figuring out how you will take your scooter from home to your work. There are many roads that scooters are not able to go on, such as highways and freeways. Trying to create your route by hand is time-consuming and tedious. A better approach? Let Google Maps handle the heavy lifting.
Bring up Google Maps and plug in your destination (work) and your starting point (home). Then, take advantage of the "Avoid highways" feature:
- Click on the three dots (found in the top right corner)
- Click "Route options"
- Click "Avoid highways"
The route that gets generated should be a scooter-friendly route. Just remember that you will want to un-select this option when using your car. Otherwise, you will end up taking the long scenic route.
It's important to not select the route created specifically for bikes (instead of cars). This route may take you places that a scooter is not able to go, such as sidewalks or recreational bike paths.
Get Navigation Assistance During The Ride
When you take your car to work, you can easily hear your phone's directions. The windows are rolled up, so you won't be bombarded with road noise. When you ride a scooter, it's a different story. Hearing the phone's directions can be difficult - or impossible!
That's where a Bluetooth® earpiece enters the picture. It'll ensure you hear every direction, keeping your commute easy. Be sure that the earpiece you get can safely and comfortably fit inside your helmet.
It's also helpful to program the settings so that you get some head's up on upcoming turns. This will give you plenty of time to get into the correct lane and limit any sudden sharp turns, which can be risky and unsafe.
Plan Ahead For Parking
Don't forget to care for your scooter after you've arrived at work! There are two key considerations to make.
First, you need to protect your scooter from poor weather. Invest in a waterproof cover that shields your scooter from rain, dust, harsh sun, and so on. Remember that it will need to fold up for easy storage. It’s also important to get a cover that will be securely fastened. If a heavy wind picks up, the cover won’t blow away.
Second, you need to protect against theft. Pick up some security accessories, such as a disc-brake lock and chain lock. If you store any items on your scooter, make sure that they are secured as well.
